Intel started the removal of Xeon 7000 server processors and Itanium 2 based on 130 Nm Madison. Intel will accept orders for those specified models until November, 16th, 2007 , and last part will be dispatched on 16th February, next year.
Madison processors includes only single core chips working at 1,50 GHz, 1,60 GHz or 1,66 GHz. Second cache level (L2) goes from 3 Mb to 9 Mb. Naturally, with similar characteristics those chips could not show a worthy performance level , necessary for modern server systems .
Xeon 7000 series was presented by 90 Nm and 65 Nm processors working at frequency from 2,5 GHz to 3,5 GHz, and having L3 cache from 4 Mb to 16 Mb (in case of 65 Nm processors : Tulsa).
Their place will be occupied by 65 Nm Tigerton based on dual and quad core . They will replace the outdated models Xeon MP 7000 series ( using Netburst architecture ). New processors Itanium will be presented in the end of year: They will be changed to Montvale which in 2008 will be associated with 65 Nm Tukwila dual and quad core processors.
