The tendencies of high performance work stations market was radically changed in last years. If in the beginning of 2006 Intel xeon was in downward position, and AMD opteron collected revolutions, then today situation is the opposite: AMD portion is reduced, Intel grows. In the first quarter of the present year , users dispatched 674 thousand work stations. If we isolate the segment of Windows- compatible work stations, which support the installation of two processors, for a while the share of systems on the base of AMD opteron progressively increased its share over systems on base Of Intel xeon. Thus, in the third quarter 2005 it was equal to 6,6%, in the fourth ( 9,1% ) , in the first quarter 2006  (12,4% ), and in the second ( 13,3% ). This was the maximum, after which AMD opteron portion was reduced in the third quarter to 10,9%. In the fourth quarter it slightly rose to 11,1%, but as overall in the first quarter (present year) it was lowered to 8,0%. Here is a picture witch explain AMD work station share : Concerning the market for work stations as a whole (including single-processor systems), AMD portion reached the maximum of  3,6% - in the second quarter of last year, and it was reduced to 2,0% in the first quarter of the present year.
