Now there is many overclock statistics for yorkfield processor , a large quantity of results showed that this processor is able to reach the 4.5 GHz frequency with powerful air cooler . Furthermore, Intel representatives officially stated that yorkfield processors series will later reach the 4.0 GHz frequencies (stock).

However, all these achievements with the overclock to 4.5 GHz in air were provided with core 2 Extreme processors (with the free multiplier). However, yorkfield processors witch cost less than $1000 will have the limited multiplier and the system bus frequency 1333 MHz (333 MHz) can limit the overclock.

Today on xtremeSystems appeared the description of overclock experiment with the engineering model core 2 Quad q9550 (2.83 GHz) with box cooler . We should note that asus maximus formula SE motherboard BIOS is not entirely ready to encounter the 45 nm processors penryn generation , since the multiplier step 0.5x is not supported. For this reason the processor instead of regular multiplier 8.5x worked with the 8.0x multiplier.

After raising the core voltage to the value more than 1.35 v, The owner was able to overclock to 3.6 GHz. The system bus frequency in this case was equal to 451 MHz, precisely this factor limited further overclock.

i just bought the q9550 with the asus p5k prem/wifiap and to spoil myself i bought the OCZreaper4gb ram, now here come my question.!! can i easily overklock my cpu to at least 2800mhz. can someone tell me what i should do to overklok my cpu safely >.< >excuse my english<

I don\'t understand. I bought an ASUS P5QL-E MB and the Q9550, and mine is set for 2.83 GHz. already... That is not overclocked for that processor. 2.83 GHz is the Intel recommended speed for it on what I am reading. (Check the Intel site.) Otherwise, maybe the MB you have is set for lower?

As to the question, as long as you keep the voltages in the right range, and use plenty of cooling, overclocking is safe. The cooling fans/heatsinks are the inportant factor as overclocking makes any CPU run hotter.

When you overclock, be sure to keep the CPU cooled down, and each time you crank it up a notch, run processor intensive programs (like the newer games) and test it thoroughly. If you notice BSODs or instabilities, drop back to the last settings that worked successfully.

Even games do not load the four core enough . U have to do some linpack (intel burn-in test , New OCCT or just download the library directly from Intel site), For the best result the 64 bit is pretty good . If you are running a 32 bit os version then about 50-60 pass should be enough , Watch your temp linpack will increase your CPU heat but 10-20c in comparison with regular application.
