After test it became clear that the Radeon HD 3850 with 256 MB memory is not a competitor to the GeForce 8800 GT 512 MB . Do AMD prepare some secret weapons, allowing the Radeon HD 3870 to defeat the GeForce 8800 GT with same price and frequencies?
Such weapons could be the CrossFire technology, which show better performance when compared to two GeForce 8800 GT 512 MB (SLI). For comparison a motherboards based on chipset Intel X38 and nForce 680i SLI respectively was used, as well as the overclocked to 3.0 GHz processor Core 2 Quad Q6600.
In 90% of cases CrossFire provides greater performance gains compared to SLI. In absolute terms, this is not always helpful for Radeon HD 3870 to defeat the GeForce 8800 GT, but sometimes the advantage by 10-40% is provided on the side of AMD video card.
In 60% of cases CrossFire provides performance increases by more than 50%, while the increase from SLI reaches only 40% .In 30% of cases CrossFire provides performance increases of more than 80% witch is an excellent indicator of performance. SLI rarely reaches 70-78%.
But here most systems with two or more video cards work with SLI technology. Maybe AMD finally be able to at least partially reverse the situation to their own advantage. Related Products :
