Desiring to present a competitor to intel skulltrail platform and 3- way SLI technology from NVIDIA, AMD company intend to announce at the beginning of March crossFire X technology , which will allow to unite in one system from three to four video chips.

Three and more video card can work with crossFire X only under Windows vista. However, the same is correct for 3- way SLI.

Here is the visual idea about the ability Of crossFire X to scale gaming speed with radeon HD 3870 , two video card radeon HD 3870 X2, and also three Radeon HD 3870 X2 and one chip radeon HD 3870.

As it was expected, the greatest increase is observed after transfer from one to two video card - here boost varies from 70 to 100% in the best cases. If the quantity of video chip is increased to three, performance increase will compose 30-40%. The fourth video chip adds only 10% , in the case of Call Of duty 4 only four chip demonstrated an impressive increase with 29%.

In principle, all is regular. The speed level of three video chips (crossFire X ) is scaled better then 3- way SLI. Note that the load distribution between video chip according to AFR method (each chip processes its sequence) increase delays , and with higher video card number this problem is only aggravated. . Delays is possible to compensate using this special utility (fps limiter).
