Several days ago we already published the photograph of the GT200 chip, made on 55 NM technologies. However, today appeared the new photographs of this chip : In this case we deal with the GeForce GTX 260, precisely its new version. The printed-circuit board underwent significant changes. This is how it appear in comparison with the OLD PCB: Old version PCB has the designation R651, the new is called R654. The length remained as in predecessors, and here the width was increased . Graphic processor is also located on the previous place. However, here the arrangement of memory chips underwent significant changes. If earlier 16 memory microcircuits were placed in the face and wrong side , then now the whole memory is placed in the face side only. The number of microcircuits was reduced, from 16 pieces to 14, which indicate the 448 bit bus. It is obvious that the 512 bit bus on this PCB version  cannot be used, since physically there is no places for the two memory microcircuits . Probably, the GeForce GTX 280 will continue to use the old PCB, or one new version will be developed . Besides the memory arrangement , the power-supply system was changed . Instead of 3 + 2 phases (for the graphic processor and memory ) now we have 4+2. Thus, it is possible to make the conclusion that the significant PCB design change was directed, in the first place, to decrease the prime production cost . We will hope that the PCB simplification will not affect its quality and will not affect the operational stability of video card as in the good old GeForce 7800 GT. For the clock frequencies , they are preserved at the level of old version GeForce GTX 260, Video card from Zotac production use Samsung memory with the access time 0.8 NS. Changes touched not only PCB. The new version GeForce GTX 260 will be equipped with the new cooling system, which is similar to the old, but with a number of differences. In this case change are insignificant, they are directed furthermore to a reduction in the prime production cost . Thus, the area of the copper base was decreased, and individual thermo-padding for the memory and power-supply system are cheaper. The characteristic of PCB and cooling system, will allow to distinguish in store the new version GeForce GTX 260 from the old. Related Products :
