Hard disks producers periodically reexamine the periods and guarantee conditions of their production. In general producer guarantee  varies between two standards : three and five years respectively. The world crisis hit, it was time to optimize expenditures, and today in Seagate site appeared information that all dispatched after 3 January 2009 hard disks barracuda 7200 in the OEM- assembly will have only three year guarantee instead of the previous five-year. Changes will not touch corporate and desktop hard disks, which are sold in the box version - for them the guarantee periods will be as before equal to five years. Seagate explains, that 95% of defects occurs in the first three years of hard disks operation  ; therefore, five-year guarantee in some of degree is excess. The change in the guarantee periods does not completely indicate reduction in the quality of hard disks, this is only an optimization of internal producer procedures , connected with the production guarantee support .
