The total processor frequency is determined by the multiplier and the bus frequency. Elder processors from  AMD and Intel production have a free (unlocked) multiplier , which allow to overclock processor without increase in the bus frequency , This last is frequently attached to other parameters, which influence the stability of system. If Intel company evaluates such high end processor usually over thousands of dollars (extreme edition), then AMD black edition processors had an accessible price. The frequency of AMD processors can be also increased/decreased by the system bus . Today appeared interesting revelations of phenom II X4. As it was explained, with some favorable conditions these processors can be overclocked in the bus up to 350 MHz. If we consider that the base frequency for these processors is 200 MHz, then increase can be considered as decent. However, in this case the hyperTransport coefficient has to be reduced. Such news is useful for those who intend to buy the processor phenom II X4 920 (2.8 GHz) with the default multiplier value 14x.  Furthermore, the  14x multiplier with reserve will be sufficient to the supporters of air cooling, whose motherboard is capable to overclock only to 300 MHz(Bus). In order to overclock the processor strongly, a more effective cooling will be required, and its supporters will prefer to add $40 for the processor phenom II X4 940 Black edition (3.0 GHz) with the free multiplier.
