Motherboards producers already began to announce products with socket AM3, they were based on existing chipset : AMD 790GX or 790FX.
It was considered that new high end chipset AMD RD890 will appear in the third quarter 2009. Simultaneously will appear the new south bridge SB800, which will support the faster serial ATA version . AMD company also intends to improve the overclocking potential of socket AM3 systems with the aid of RD890 + SB800.
This chipset will support up to four slots PCI express x16, which work in the regime PCI express x8, or two slots PCI express x16. The South bridge SB800 will support the integrated gigabit net controller. The quantity of supported USB and Serial ATA ports will also grow. AMD will also add some optimized technologies for hardware monitoring and energy consumption administrations.
